Painting Studio Fall 2015

Presentation for Senior Year: Koi Series

This year I will create a body of work entirely focused on koi fish.  In 2008 my father suddenly passed away and since then, has been my inspiration for not only this series, but my entire career as an artist.  He loved koi fish and the Japanese culture, he even built a koi pond in our backyard.  In Japan “koi” are symbols of love and friendship.  There are many myths, my favorite being the Dragon Koi, that have inspired me and motivated me to continue learning about koi.  Reading these ancient legends transform koi from ornamental fish into the magical creatures I see them as.  It is an important goal for me to translate just how passionate I am about koi through the way I handle paint and experimentation with different painting mediums.
